Project description

Together with DWA and Klimaatservice Holland, BRControls has achieved an office tower in Rotterdam.

Bouw FIRST Rotterdam is launched

Councilor Hamit Karakus gave the go-ahead for the construction by FIRST Rotterdam. These residential, employment and shopping towers have become real eye-catchers in the Rotterdam Central District. Construction was entrusted to the VolkerWessels companies Boele & van Eesteren and Wessels Zeist. FIRST Rotterdam CV, the Maarsen Groep development consortium from Amsterdam, and MAB Development from the Hague were the developers. A total investment of around €80 million was made.

FIRST Rotterdam

FIRST Rotterdam is located directly in front of the new Rotterdam Central train station. This prominent location of the Rotterdam Central District marks the gateway to the inner city. It serves as the first impression of the city for the over three hundred thousand travelers visiting the new Rotterdam Central each day from 2015 on. FIRST Rotterdam is a statement of urban dynamics. The 120 meters high tower is a new highlight on the Rotterdam skyline.

The construction of FIRST Rotterdam is part of the redevelopment of the Weenapoint in Rotterdam. The existing Weenapoint towers have been radically renovated. The Koepelgebouw, a national monument, has been given more space and greenery. The total area will soon be a smart mix of urban functions. In total, the area comprises around 110,000 m² of office space, hospitality, shops, apartments, courtyards and parking facilities.
The first tenants are NautaDutilh and Robeco. Office space is still available for other parties.

Bouw Combinatie First was set up for the construction of FIRST. In order to make this possible, the existing buildings on the location on which the new building was to be constructed were demolished. The monumental facade with the artwork "Wall Relief no. 1" by Henry Moore has been temporarily moved to the Weenapoint courtyard. The artwork will be given a prominent position in the facade of the new FIRST Rotterdam.

FIRST Rotterdam received the BREEAM-NL Design Certificate, Excellent for the design of this project. This certificate was achieved in close cooperation with the tenants.
FIRST was designed by Architekten CIE. This top quality, timeless architecture fits well with the ambitions of the prestigious Rotterdam Central District in being the gateway to Europe. An important part of this is the Central Station, which will expand into a public transport terminal on a regional, national and international level. This is where high speed lines, rail connecting major cities and suburbs, trains, metro, bus, trams and taxi come together.
